This page describes the personnel who operate the Sanfe Bagar Medical Clinic.
Medical Director
The medical director is responsible for overall management of clinical activities. Key duties include provision of clinical care, oversight of public health programs, collaborating with government agencies for supplies, training health workers, and managing clinic staff and operations.
Specific tasks include:
- Provision of routine prenatal care and delivery, training of midwives, and oversight of public health outreach programs to pregnant women.
- Providing the basic package of emergency obstetric care, including manual removal of placenta; dilation and curettage; provision of intravenous oxytocin; provision of intravenous antibiotics; provision of intravenous anticonvulsants. He will train staff in this package as well.
- Oversee ANM and CMA provision of integrated management of childhood illnesses services.
- Provide direct medical treatment of common primary care conditions, minor orthopedic, dermatologic, and surgical procedures. S/he will additionally take every opportunity to train staff in these treatments.
- Work with the laboratory team to identify gaps in diagnostic capacity and to expand services.
- Provide strategic direction in terms of where and when to expand clinical services.
Program Director (1)
The program director oversees all clinic and community operations.
Specific tasks include:
Administrative Clerk (1)
The clerk is responsible for maintaining accurate patient records at the clinic. The clerk reports to the Program Director and Director of Logistics.
Specific tasks include:
- Recording the basic contact information of the patient when they come to clinic
- Placing appropriate foms for each clinical encounter into patient record
- Assisting the Director of Logistics in entering information into the MSUPPLY database.
- Assisting the Program Director in maintaining accurate financial accounting.
- Maintaining the intake and pharmacy room and the administrative room in good working order.
- Writing community notices of new programs to be delivered to the villages.
- Communicating with the DHO in Mangalsen on any collaborative projects.
The administrative clerk should be fluent in written English and Nepali, should be comfortable with basic word processing, and should be dedicated, hard-working, and honest. Some facility in spoken English is useful but not required.
ANM (5)
The ANM midwife provide antenatal and peripartum care to women. Her duties include:
- Routine prenatal care, including iron and folic acid supplementation, nutrition counseling, attention to warning signs, provision of tetanus toxoid vaccination, and assistance with prenatal screening of diseases such as HIV and syphilis.
- Routine delivery, including both in-clinic and at-home service.
- Triage of complex cases to the doctor and/or health assistants. Depending upon her experience and training, she may also participate in emergency obstetric care, including manual removal of placenta; dilation and curettage; provision of intravenous oxytocin; provision of intravenous antibiotics; provision of intravenous anticonvulsants.
- Depending upon the need and her experience and training, she may also participate in healthcare delivery for infants and children.
Other key duties will include working with the medical director in the provision of clinical care, the running of public health programs, collaborating with government agencies for supplies, and assisting in logistics. The ANM midwife will be expected to work as much as is dictated by patient volume and available staff. The ANM midwife may make recommendations to the Clinic Management Board regarding hiring and firing, although decisions regarding this will be made at the discretion of CMB.
The ANM should have significant experience in the care of pregnant patients and should be dedicated and hard-working. Typically we will try to hire within Achham when possible.
HA/Pharmacist (3)
The HA/Pharmacist sees patients under the supervision of the medical director and also runs the pharmacy. Depending upon his/her capacity, also the HA/Pharmacist will assist the logistics director in inputting data into the supplies chain database.
Key duties include working with the medical director in the provision of clinical care, the running of public health programs, collaborating with government agencies for supplies, and assisting in logistics. The health assistant is expected to work as much as is dictated by patient volume and available staff. The health assistant may make recommendations to the Clinic Management Board regarding hiring and firing, although decisions regarding this will be made at the discretion of CMB.
Lab Assistant (1)
The lab assistant works, under the supervision of the director of logistics, to do the follow tasks:
- perform routine laboratory tests at the request of the clinicalstaff, including but not limited to:
- Complete blood count using an auto-analyzer
- Manual complete blood count
- Colorimetric tests including hemoglobin, creatinine, SGPT, SGOT, albumin, protein, glucose, bilirubin
- gram stain
- cell counts of CSF specimens.
- microscopic analysis of CSF, stool, urine, serum, and sputum specimen
- basic culture microbiology
- Maintenance in well-working order of all laboratory equipment and reagents.
- Assist the Program Director in the procurement of laboratory supplies.
- Assist the Program Director in the expansion of laboratory services.
- Implement and refine clinic infection control best practices protocols.
The lab assistant is expected to work as much as is dictated by patient volume and available staff. The lab assistant may make recommendations to the Clinic Management Board regarding hiring and firing, although decisions regarding this will be made at the discretion of CMB.
Administrative Director (1)
The Nyaya Health administrative director is based in KTM to attend to various official matters with government officials, procurement agencies, and donor agencies. Specifically, he will work on the following tasks:
- Work with the ministry of health to sign agreements and coordinate supplies and staffing.
- Work with the Ministry of Finance to coordinate payments from the Ministry of Health.
- Work with private and government partners to improve connectivity in Achham
- Facilitate the final signing of the Social Welfare Council agreement.
- Coordinate logistics of getting supplies to staff in Achham
- Pursuing in-country financial resources through embassies and international agencies
- Coordinate work with accountants for the preparation of tax documents.
The job involves telephoning and meeting with key politicians, bureaucrats, and technicians; writing, printing, and delivering key documents; dialoguing with other organizations; and addressing logistical and political challenges faced by the Achham-based staff. He will be expected to respond to emails promptly, and to send out biweekly updates to Nyaya directors. On the part of Nyaya Health, the directors will provide him biweekly emails with updates, tasks lists, ideas, and support. They will be available over email and chat at almost all hours of the day to provide support to the administrative director.
The ideal candidate would have some employment or undergraduate or masters degree in business administration or in healthcare. Previous employment in the private sector or with an NGO is desirable. Knowledge of the political and bureaucratic workings of the government is a major plus. The candidate must have excellent computer knowledge, ability to use MS Word and Excel and dialogue over email and chat with our US-based technical team. S/he should also be comfortable with a "virtual office" consisting of a laptop computer and a CDMA wireless modem, as opposed to a formal office.
