Nyaya Health Executive Director
This agreement, between Ms. Shefali Oza and Nyaya Health, stipulates expectations for both parties during the period from March 15, 2009-September 1, 2010 during which time Ms. Oza will be Executive Director. This is a volunteer position.
Overview of Duties
The ED is responsible for providing the overall leadership of Nyaya in Achham. This person is based in Achham and is a full-time position. S/he is expected to:
- oversee all the clinical and public health operations of Nyaya Health in Nepal. The specific functions of his/her work are detailed in the evernote clinic manual;
- engage all members outside Achham in a respectful and productive dialogue to continue to build the Nyaya Health team;
- together with the Director of Operations, ensure that the wiki, blog, and evernote are updated, rigorous, and creative;
- together with the DOO, ensure the overall functioning and synergy of the board as a team;
- together with the DOO, discuss individually with any board member who is underperforming and propose, as necessary, that underperforming board members be removed from the board;
- together with the DOO, be the point-person on any issues that any other board member faces;
- actively work to expand the vision of the organization and ensure other board members are doing so;
- run weekly conference calls with the US-based team.
Expectations
As the leader of the organization in Nepal, the ED is expected to:
- search out new partnerships, ideas, technologies, markets, and strategies;
- respond promptly to Nyaya members’ requests;
- be honest about her time commitments and ability to meet tasks agreed upon;
- engage all members of the US and Achham teams in a respectful and positive dialogue;
- regularly communicate about the progress of her work.
Furthermore, as with all Achham-based staff and volunteers, she is expected to:
- refrain completely in imbibing alcohol, tobacco, or any mind-altering substances whenever she is in Achham, during work hours or any other time;
- treat all staff members with respect and dignity;
- listen carefully to feedback and suggestions from all staff members;
- engage in no personal income-generating activities unless approved by the Nyaya Health Board of Directors;
- dress professionally (business casual) and stay well-groomed whenever working;
- comport him/herself courteously and professionally in all interactions with community members in Achham, during work hours or any other time;
- be open to learning new tasks and engaging in new experiences.
Nyaya Health as an organization and under the overall direction of the President of the Board of Directors, is expected to:
- provide ongoing feedback as to the quality of her work and interactions with staff, patients, and community members, and identify areas for improvement;
- engage in a respectful dialogue with the DOO about the direction of the organization;
- pay for room, board, and in-country travel expenses.
- provide support for educational opportunities and other opportunities for emotional, ethical, and intellectual development.
- pay attention to the mental and physical health of the ED, and take care that she is well-nourished and not overworked.
Duties and expectations may change over time; such changes may be undertaken by verbal agreement between the DOO of Nyaya Health and the ED.
Period of Service
The period of service may be extended at any time, but must be done within two months prior to the termination of the period of service specified above. The objective is that Ms. Oza remains committed and engaged with Nyaya Health in the long-term over the course of several years, either in the present capacity or in a new role.
Finalizing the Agreement
This agreement will be finalized upon emailed agreement by the DOO of Nyaya Health Mr. Ryan Schwarz and Ms. Oza.
